Comparison to Legacy Media

Nano Beads vs Ion Exchange

An Ion exchange (IX) solution generates a large amount of waste and uses significant amounts of water for regeneration. In some cases IX resins cannot be regenerated at all and must be burned for disposal.

IX exchanges one element for another. With Nano Beads adsorption, there is no exchange. The beads capture only the ion of interest.

There is no regeneration step required for Nano Beads versus IX. Instead a rinse solution releases the filter beads when full which typically takes less than <5 minutes. The beads are then ready to begin adsorption again. Also the rinse solution is used over and over, concentrating the removed element/s.

Typically no pretreatment is required and there is also no clogging concerns for up to 12% solids at 75 microns in size with Nano Beads versus IX.

Nano Beads vs Carbon

Carbon must be burned to recover the elements adsorbed. Nano Beads use a chemical process that is reused to the point of solubility. This means not only is the filter material reusable for thousands of cycles and we eliminate the “burn” but also the Nano Beads process is concentrating the elements, eliminating additional process steps required when using carbon.

Nano Beads vs Membranes

Replacing a membrane system with Precision Periodic’s Nano Beads filtration eliminates 99% of the power requirements. There is no pressure required which is not only power intensive but also a health and safety issue for workers as membrane systems pressure requirements are in the 16+ BAR range which is 232 pounds per square inch. You don’t want to be around that when it blows which can happen when something clogs up which membranes do and have to be regularly cleared.

In addition, process steps can be eliminated further saving power, time and real estate requirements. Nano Beads can process up to 12% solids at 75 microns in size without fouling. So pre-treatment steps that are needed for membrane systems can be eliminated.

Nano Beads are Recycled

The beads are a porous, hard ceramic-like surface that has active ingredient applied to it using nano-technology processes. The beads will last approximately 6,000 cycles before needed to be refurbished. Precision Periodic collects the used beads and refurbishes them for reuse eliminating any and all waste.
